Makes it easy to playThis board is impressive, sturdy and well made; However, the wood is not stained the color it is in the advertised photos—its more of a cherry than it is a darker oak color. I wish it were the darker oak color because I do like the way it looks better in the pictures advertised. Aesthetics aside, I’m sure it’s going to be loads of fun.This is a beautiful board, but there were a couple of things we did not like about the product. First, the letters on the tiles which are 1" squares. The letters are different sizes. For instance the Q's are placed a bit lower than the O's. So, when you look across your tray you don't see a straight line of letters. That may be a small issue for some, but we think it is easier to make a word(s) when looking at a straight string of letters vs. up and down. We were trying to understand why they made them as they are and it is likely because of the score number located at the bottom. It may interfere with the overall making of the letters. But, whatever the reason, we did not think it was worth the money when the letters aren't placed in the same place on the wood tiles. We measured to see if the letters were all the same size and they are. So, it is a matter of placement on the tile. Other than that, it would have been a fine purchase. I would not recommend this to someone that plans on moving it around a lot. It is bulky and a bit heavy. But, if it is going to live in one place, it would add to the overall ambience of the room. We play on our bed, so it was not the best for our needs. We would have likely kept it though had the letters been placed the same. We did return the game for that reason and because it was too bulky for our needs.Again, if the placing of the letters would not bother you, the game is a beautiful piece and could give hours of fun enjoying one of the best games ever, Scrabble.The gold grid is raised up in 2 spots, which encompasses about 12 squares total. We will try to fix it ourselves by putting some superglue on a Q-tip and running it under the gold wiring to see if that will secure it. The gold frame is actually 2 pieces together (2 1/2 board sizes). Quality could be improved by getting this into a one piece grid, as the seam line is obvious.The other item is that when you swivel the board, it makes noise. And old rickety sounding noise. Does anyone know how to fix that? Some type of machine oil maybe.We love it otherwise. Yeah the wood is not perfect wood. You can see the uneven surface on top of the wood, so what I mean is, the wood is not completely smooth, but rather has some dips in it. It's more of an aggravation due to the price we paid. If we had paid $49 for this, then no problem on these items. But for $109, the price is a bit overreaching.We might still try to swap it out. We will wait a week and see if the squeaky noisy turntable settles down.Update: I used a cotton swab with a bit of everyday glue, and it worked! I'm much happier now that the gold grid is in place!Updated update: Upgraded from 3 stars to 4 stars. We really love the way it looks and it's been very practical. Overall, I do think we have played enough to have had our money worth out of it. Looks nice and matches our other furniture accents which are also in the cherry/rosewood tradition.We found this Scrabble board to be nothing short of amazing! This addition has been the perfect solution for several of the visually challenged seniors who live in our community and have been playing Scrabble on Thursday nights for the last three years. The tiles fit quite snuggly in the slots, so some people may have a slight issue removing them.ClayFantastic. Fantastic !!! How much do you want for $145.00 ??? Or : Go find another one. Where ??? What a great, charming, perfect, actually large version of this game. Get it for 4-person marathons. It spins. It looks GREAT !!The tiles ARE double-sized. Sight-impaired ?? Put the game on a card table with bright lighting. It's so, socool. $145.00. Wow. Great. Not even my favorite game, but it's my favorite thing.The larger tiles, rotating board and overall fine quality of this game board make playing Deluxe Scrabble a vastly more pleasurable experience than playing the standard sized version (to say nothing of the travel editions).One small caveat, You can't get replacement tiles for this one. So, DON'T lose the pieces. I had the good fortune of having only lost a blank and the letter I. Access to woodworking tools made it relatively painless to make the replacements myself. I did however order a second copy of this game before I decided to try to make the pieces myself. I could fairly easily reproduce the letter "I" and the number 1 with a fine point Sharpie and some masking tape. I'd hate to have to try to draw any of the curved letters. Having the second set in reserve guarantees that I'll have a pristine set of tiles for some time to come.Note to Winning Solutions. Offer replacement tiles!This is a fine looking game and can be left out as a work of art! (unfortunately, that's probably how the pieces went missing).This board is perfect for us oldsters. We play scrabble daily so this conversation starter has a permanent place on our game table.. lots of laughter and family fun. Helps the grand kids with their spelling. This will become a family heirloom.
