WARNING TO CUSTOMERSI ordered this book and Camarilla and neither came with a pdf code so I ordered a replacement and again no pdf codes were included. I looked up a video to see where they would be and they’re definitely not there. My first impression was that amazons seller peeled off the pdf codes and sold them separately but I found out the real reason is that White Wolf stopped published through there old distributor and Renegade doesn’t offer a free pdf.So this book lays a ground work for your rp game. It’s got several rules that you will have to use to create a character or play the game but fhere is a lot of room to home brew the story which brings me to two major complaints about this book.1. There is a limit to the generation of vampire you can play. There are 16 vampire generations. Only four can be played, 10th, 11th, 12th, & 13th. Anything lower than that and you’re a thin blood. You can’t play generation 9 or earlier because of a story element. All gen 9 and earlier vampires are called by the beckoning. In one regard this helps eliminate over powered vampires or from players especially new players creating characters that are God like from the start of the game. On the other had there’s too many generations cut from the game and a lack of diversity in blood potency mechanics. I’m not saying people should be able to play as gen 3 elders. I just wish that the cut off had been around 6th or 5th gen. At least 7th.2. The beginning of the book talks about politics. Not Camarilla politics but real life politics and specifically “far right” politics. If we’re honest and pretend that there also aren’t far left radical politics becoming increasingly common; this is a rule book for an RPG game. No one is reading this feeling they need to be informed or instructed in the world of real life politics. I know this might have been due to controversy or backlash but you can’t make everyone happy. As a company you have had very serious controversies for years and fundamentalist Christian parents harping on the company for decades. You simply do not cave into the demands of people and need to stay as apolitical as possible when talking about real world politics if you’re worried about backlash. Maybe remove Bruja entirely or change up their back story if your player base can’t make the distinction. As far as the actual book and the rules aside from the generational cut offs between elders and thin bloods does it’s job. It establishes a world for players with Vampires, enemies, sects, and factions. I would have given it four stars had it not been for the rules being spread out too much. For instance there is a chapter on blood resonance but in order to fully understand the rules surrounding it you might to flip down 100 pages to learn about Dyscacia and then go into exp to learn that if you have a matching resonance it takes off an exp point to learn and also the political thing. Along with the weird choice to screw over their customers by changing to a different studio who doesn’t offer pdfs. Also Leftist extremist are not cooler or better than any other kind White Wolf, they all suck and idolize dictatorships. Please get your shit together. The book is a 10/10 for writing and art. Its heavy, big and the pages are high quality. The only issue is navigation as in you may have to page through sections in a weird order to make sense of the mechanics and game if you are new to it. Thankfully there is a reference in the beginning of the book with chapters and page numbers and if you just use that you wont struggle. Also big thanks to who ever packed my book because they wrapped it in protective plastic and then put it in a box with airbags - I point this out because my sabbat book for VTM just came in a cardboard sleeve and the book got a bit damaged.Something that isn’t 5e. Now I just need a group to play with.As a fan of the Vampire: the Masquerade games and a dabbler in the World of Darkness franchise, I heavily enjoy the lore and world of VtM. This was my first experience with tabletop gaming and everyone I played with enjoyed it. Really cool premise and while it may be hard to wrap your head around all the pages, the artwork keeps you immersed in the presentation and left me avidly wanting to read a tabletop gaming corebook for fun.I love playing in this world. However, the old editions were far easier to read, and the art was better (cosplay photos of people with OK acting/posing abilities doesn't sell the fantasy at all). I can see that they're employing a graphic designer who likes to experiment with type, which is cool! However, it gets in the way of usability in this case.Easy to read and find exactly what you need at the moment. Well organized and handy.Overall a great boom, however, it is my understanding that every hardcover book in this line is supposed to come with a code to redeem a free PDF of the book and mine did not come with it.Love the rule changes, lore & power changes. I didn't like the lack of flaws/merits. Prefer the old game flaws/meritsVampire 5th Edition is pretty great. However my review is for this particular item on amazon, which is fulfilled by Amazon themselves, rather than the system or contents. I wish I'd listened to the other reviews as someone in their warehouse is opening the shrink wrap and damaging the book in the process, stealing the codes redeemable for a free PDF copy, and then shipping the books out like this. Disgusting. There's a separate Amazon listing fulfilled by Asmodee, use that or a different site entirely. Mine looks like its 2nd hand and I get no PDF code, completely unacceptable and probably illegal.
